NITROX Diver ISO 11107
Any certified diver knows that the nitrogen in the air we breathe is what limits the duration of diving at depth. Nitrogen is the cause of decompression sickness and of the feeling of fatigue at the end of a dive day. For this reason, in the days when diving was mainly a military and commercial undertaking, divers used oxygen-enriched air, a breathing gas mixture with a reduced amount of nitrogen and an increased percentage of oxygen. This breathing gas mixture was called oxygen-enriched air, or NITROX for short. With the advent of NITROX use in the recreational dive world in the 1990s, many divers understood the advantages of NITROX use and the demand for NITROX classes grew. NITROX is used for increasing the safety of recreational diving and is a pre-requisite for technical diving and closed circuit diving classes, as these types of dives are both long and deep and require the use of oxygen-enriched breathing gas throughout the dive. The Israeli Dive Federation (TIDF) offers two levels of NITROX specialty classes, which may be undertaken separately or as one combined class.

Learning objectives: This class is intended to train and qualify the diver in the safe use of 3 NITROX mixtures: NITROX 32% - Enriched air mixture with 32% oxygen. NITROX 36% - Enriched air mixture with 36% oxygen. NITROX 40% - Enriched air mixture with 40% oxygen*. These NITROX mixtures are considered an industry standard and SCUBA tanks pre-filled with these mixes are available for rent in nearly every dive shop worldwide. During the class students will learn the use of specialized NITROX no-decompression limit dive tables, NITROX-enabled computers, oxygen analyzers to correctly measure the percentage of oxygen in the breathing mixture, and more. Additionally, students will learn about the physiological limitations of NITROX use and the use of NITROX-compatible equipment. |
Learning objectives: This class is intended to train and qualify the diver in the safe use of NITROX mixtures ranging from 22% to 50% oxygen. The diver will be able to choose the appropriate NITROX mixes for the planned dive, beyond the 3 basic mixes utilized in the basic NITROX DIVER class. During the class students will learn the use of specialized NITROX no-decompression limit dive tables, NITROX-enabled computers, oxygen analyzers to correctly measure the percentage of oxygen in the breathing mixture, and more. This class is a pre-requisite for technical diving and closed circuit diving classes.
